BDSM on a budget

BDSM, like any hobby, can get expensive. In our constant search for new experiences, there are a wide variety of providers that are ready and willing to take our money in exchange for prebuilt items (floggers, vibrators etc). However, like any hobby there are cost saving ways to keep some of your money, assuming you are willing to think a little outside the box

Cuffs – Nothing can replace a good set of cuffs. I personally enjoy leather fur lined ones, but others enjoy metal or even barbed wire. If you are looking for cuffs, this is one area that I don’t suggest skimping in. I used to buy the cheapest I could, and they broke quickly. I spent double on a good pair and have had no issues with them since. That being said however, if your goal is bondage, there are alternatives. Rope works rather well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMbg2Ucno98) as cuffs. Plastic packing wrap is relatively cheap and works quite well too. Just put their arm where it needs to be and wrap untill they can’t get out.

Floggers and Canes- As with cuffs, a good flogger is a worthwhile investment. However, in a pinch, wooden spoons or rolling pins are relatively inexpensive. A tree branch is free and they are plentiful (unless you live in the desert I suppose).

Crosses and bondage tables – In leiu of a cross, assuming you have somewhere secluded, you could use a tree. If indoors, a door frame or heavy furninture can be appropriated for bondage use. As for tables, really any table works. If you are feeling adventerous, tent pegs and a soft patch of ground can be quite exciting. If you are someone handy, one can be built for the cost of the materials. In a pinch, that old twin bed frame can be modified for BDSM use.

Candles – candles are fairly cheap to begin with (I’ve seen them as low as 50 cents at a craft store), however, after major holidiays, you may find them severely discounted if you don’t mind a holiday pattern on them

Poking toys – Personally, I use wooden food skewers lashed together with a rubber band. You can get a bag of them really cheap (usually less than $5).
